SUMMARY:Virtual Support/Book Group (Age 50+)
DESCRIPTION:This Virtual Support Group discusses “The Gift of imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You are Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are” by Brene Brown \nJewish Family Service (JFS) is offering a new support group for adults ages 50+ to explore ways to engage more fully with life\, even while living in uncertain times during COVID. The support group will use various books to discover new approaches to facing life’s challenges. We will begin with Brene Brown’s book The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You are Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are.* This delightful book describes how living with courage\, compassion\, and connection can help us to cultivate the ability to feel worthy and to accept and love ourselves for who we are right now. \nThe support group will meet every other Friday via zoom from 11am – 12 noon beginning Friday\, October 23\, 2020 for eight sessions. Together\, we will explore Brene’s “Ten Guideposts to Wholehearted Living” and apply these strategies to our daily lives. \n*If you are not familiar with Brene Brown\, here are two introductory videos: \nClick here for a short conversation with Oprah Winfrey about one of Brene’s ten guideposts to Wholehearted living\, which we will discuss in the group. \nClick here for her TEDTalk about vulnerability. \nGroup members may find “The Gifts of Imperfection” at your local library\, bookstore or at Amazon by clicking here \n  \n  \nFor more information and the registration link\, contact Harriet Cohen\, Ph.D.\, LCSW at JFS 469-206-1671 or hcohen@jfamilyservice.org

SUMMARY:Community High Holiday Diaper Drive
DESCRIPTION:JFS has seen an increased demand for diapers and wipes during our Food Pantry’s weekly drive-thru distribution. In an effort to meet that need\, we are merging our Annual High Holiday Drive with our 10th Annual Diaper Shower. Even with a weekly supply of 6\,000 diapers to distribute\, we run out within the first hour of our three-hour distribution. We anticipate that we need about 15\,000 diapers in various sizes every week to meet the need. \nPlease consider giving in one of the following ways: \nDrop & Go\nThursday\, September 24\, 2020 between 3:00pm-6:00pm \nSee the difference our community makes by attending our contactless drive-thru collection. Please put donations in your trunk so volunteers can safely retrieve them as you come through the JFS parking lot. \nBuy Online\nAmazon Wish List: bit.ly/JFSDwishlist \nWhen you purchase through the link above\, the boxes are automatically shipped to our pantry. If you’d like to purchase elsewhere\, please have your donation shipped to 5402 Arapaho Road\, Dallas\, TX 75248. \nThe North Texas Food Bank has provided us with completely pre-packaged boxes of food since we transitioned to the drive-thru distribution model\, so we have found that there is not a need for physical food donations at this time. However\, it’s become clear that there is a great need for diapers and wipes. Even with a weekly supply of 6\,000 diapers to distribute\, we run out within the first hour of our three-hour distribution. We anticipate that we need about 15\,000 diapers in various sizes every week to meet the need. \nPlease note that physical donations will not be accepted at JFS outside of the designated drop off time on September 24. \nWe look forward to working together to provide our clients with the things they need most in the midst of this pandemic. \nIf you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to Kristen Jackson\, Director of Volunteer Engagement\, at kjackson@jfamilyservice.org. \nDOWNLOAD FLYER TO SHARE
