DESCRIPTION:Food + Fit = Fun (FFF) is a bi-lingual\, hands-on nutrition and wellness program that provides ways to live a healthier life by eating well\, staying active\, and having fun. The program was created by the National Council of Jewish Women\, Greater Dallas Section\, and was developed as a fun\, family-centered experience to help combat food insecurity and obesity before they begin. \n  \nWhy is Food+Fit=Fun needed? \nObesity rates for children have more than doubled over the last 30 years and have quadrupled for adolescents. This is the first generation of children who are likely to live shorter lives than their parents. Today\, more than 35 percent of adults are considered obese\, and obesity is one of the biggest causes of preventable diseases. In 2015\, 48.8 million Americans\, including more than 13 million children\, lived in households that lacked the financial means to consume nutritious food on a regular basis. With Food + Fit = Fun\, you are actively investing in obesity prevention today. The program gives participants the tools to lead healthier\, more productive lives through better nutrition and increased physical activity. \n  \nEating right is the most important factor for overall wellness. But where is the best place to start? Our nutrition lessons show participants how to stretch their food dollars while eating healthy. Participants learn about: \n• Filling their plates with a colorful variety of fruits and vegetables\, whole grains\, lean protein\, and low-fat dairy \n• Making a good breakfast\, controlling portion sizes\, reading food labels\, planning meals\, and staying safe in the kitchen \n• Limiting sugary beverages and salt \n  \n• Creating simple\, healthy meals on a budget Physical activity is anything that gets you moving – walking\, dancing\, or simply using the stairs. DESCRIPTION:Food + Fit = Fun (FFF) is a bi-lingual\, hands-on nutrition and wellness program that provides ways to live a healthier life by eating well\, staying active\, and having fun. DESCRIPTION:Faith Inclusion Network of Dallas (FIND) is a collaboration of faith communities from churches\, temples\, synagogues and mosques coming together to help identify exemplary programs and create awareness of the special needs community within all faith communities. The FIND symposium will be an opportunity to share best practices and resources with the goal of providing a sense of belonging for all.\n\n\nTickets to the symposium are $65 (including kosher lunch).\n\n\nThe program will include three tracks with tailored content for Parents\, Educators\, and Faith Leaders in Dallas. Be sure to select the track you’re planning on attending when you register.\n  \nParent Panel\nCome explore the multitude of different ways you can encourage and empower your child or young adult with special needs to become involved in their faith community. Discover the importance of parent and guardians acting as advocates within the faith community to provide a true sense of belonging for ALL our children. Learn successful steps taken from other parents on the same path and create a community of caring with people you can reach out to with questions or concerns as you navigate this part of the journey. \nEducator Panel\nThrough a collaborative approach with clergy\, parents and teachers\, learn new skills to “reach and teach” all students\, regardless of their special need or disability. Our focus for this track will be defining and understanding all barriers for our students with special needs and then creating alternative supportive paths to meaningful learning and self-expression\, with buy-in and support from the entire team for maximum impact. Learn and share insights and strategies to motivate\, involve and boost the engagement of all our students. \nFaith Leader Panel\nShare best practices with your colleagues and focus on building positive connections with all congregants. Our focus for this track will be new ways to provide meaningful opportunities for engagement and providing a true sense of belonging in your place of worship.
