SUMMARY:Inclusion Experience at Temple Emanu-El
DESCRIPTION:Teachers from Temple Emanu-El and other congregations are invited to join us for a hand-on experiential learning experience created by Jewish Family Service to spread awareness\, understanding and compassion about what it is like to have a special need. Participants will understand the challenges experienced by individuals with one or more special needs through a variety of interactive stations including: auditory processing\, sensory processing\, fine and gross motor skills\, speech/language skills\, reading skills – dyslexia\, and executive function – ADHD. \nAt each of these valuable experiential programs\, facilitators discuss observations with participants and help communicate the daily challenges of individuals with special needs. In turn\, The Inclusion Experience powerfully serves to reveal the need for greater sensitivity\, compassion and better inclusive practices for the benefit of people with special needs. Students don’t have to imagine what it would be like to have a disability\, they actually experience it\, first-hand.

SUMMARY:Teacher Training: It's About Ability
DESCRIPTION:It’s About Ability: Techniques for meeting the needs of students with diverse abilities and interests \nEnsuring students with such diverse abilities and interests master the same concepts and skills is one of the many challenges teachers face. One instructional method incorporating such a philosophy is Differentiated Learning\, which allows teachers to meet the needs of students with differing abilities by changing what students learn (content)\, how they retain the information (process)\, how they demonstrate knowledge of skills (product)\, and with whom and where learning happens (learning environment). While this method of instruction sounds ideal in theory\, in practice\, differentiated instruction can be complicated by other teacher-related stressors\, such as limited time for planning and instruction\, large classes\, and limited adjunct support\, amongst others. This presentation will focus on working efficiently to recognize diverse learners and include techniques for putting differentiated instruction into practice. \nDr. Elizabeth Ener\, Ph.D\, LPC\, NCC\, RPT  Child and Adolescent Clinical Therapist \nDr. Jamie Smith Psy.D Post-doctoral Fellow in Pediatric Neuropsychology

SUMMARY:Inclusion Experience at JFGD
DESCRIPTION:JFGD is holding a hands-on experiential learning experience created by Jewish Family Service to spread awareness\, understanding and compassion about what it is like to have a special need. \n  \nNote: This is a private staff event.
